The Gunners of Canada. Volume III, 1967-2012 – Progress Update

In 2011, work began on the production of Volume III of The Gunners of Canada 1967-2012.  Publication of English and French editions was anticipated in the 2017-2018 timeframe.  Funding was provided by The RCA Fund and the RCAA.  An author was contracted in 2012 and an advanced sales program was launched to help assess the number of English and French copies to be printed.  Work proceeded well until this spring.

In July 2016, the historian and the RCAA mutually decided to hand over the responsibilities of authorship to another person.  Regrettably, this caused major revisions to the production plan and timetable.  After considering the options on how to proceed, The RCA Senate decided, with the concurrence of the RCAA, to continue the production of Volume III and directed the “The Gunners of Canada Vol III Management Committee” to engage a new author to complete the project within the existing budget with the first output being a complete manuscript in English.  This is the same as the first stage objective of the initial plan.  The subsequent translation and printing stages will be determined later based on progress and funding.

As a consequence:

  • The Committee is seeking a new author while maintaining existing contracts with an editor and designer.
  • Since the revised publication date and the appropriate sales price are to be determined, the advance sales program has been cancelled and payments are being refunded by the RCA Kitshop. All persons who placed advance sales orders should have been contacted by now.

The Volume lll Committee will report when a new author is in place, the overall plan is revised, and solid progress is underway.

Although this has been an unfortunate turn of events, the RCAA Executive remains confident that a high quality history will be completed.
